BUILDING A NEW PHILANTHROPY
Logo Updated - White.png
The Constellation Fund is startup philanthropy founded and led by Andrew Dayton. It is modeled after Robin Hood Foundation in New York and Tipping Point Community in San Francisco. It is a federated giving model with rigorous evaluation methodology and best in class capacity building support.

Petersen Consultants worked closely with Mr. Dayton to develop initial plans, draft first operating and grantmaking plans, develop a strong and engaged board of directors. and build revenue to nearly $8M annually from high net worth donors and corporate investments.
AVOIDING A FUNDING CLIFF
NAZ was awarded a $28M Federal Promise Neighborhood grant to scale the vision of NAZ. The funding was an unprecedented opportunity for north Minneapolis organizations and leaders to build an innovative and horizontally integrated network of service delivery. The large grant was also a challenge to building long-term financial sustainability.

Over three years, in partnership with NAZ leadership and the development staff,  We developed a broad based fundraising plan that spanned individuals at all levels, institutional philanthropy and the public sector. We built a strong results focused team that drove the work of growing from just $1.5M outside of the federal grant to more than $6M.
ESTABLISHING A NEW IMPACT INVESTMENT FUND

URBAN LOAN, LLC

URBAN LOAN, LLC is a privately fulfilled and unsecured "loan fund" that pooled the resources of approximately 20 individuals to leverage an additional $9M from government and philanthropic institutions. The project involved close partnership of fundraising, finance and government resource teams to facilitate the refinance of more than 30 affordable housing units and add 46 additional units. The project eliminated significant annual cost for the organization and created additional units that are still truly affordable.
